the dirty dozen

According to the Environmental Working Group’s 2011 Shopper’s Guide, twelve unlucky fruits and vegetables stand out as the most likely to be contaminated with pesticide residue when bought conventional. In an effort to keep down your pesticide intake, try buying the following foods organic whenever possible!
  1. Apples
  2. Celery
  3. Strawberries
  4. Peaches
  5. Spinach
  6. Nectarines (imported)
  7. Grapes (imported)
  8. Bell peppers
  9. Potatoes
  10. Blueberries (domestic)
  11. Lettuce
  12. Kale/collard greens
A few of my mom and my recent farmer’s market finds appear on the Dirty Dozen list (thank goodness we bought organic!). Stay tuned this week for some delicious recipes starring these very peppers and peaches!
