who i am

I’m Claire, a Michigander by birth and Brooklynite by choice. Half of the money I make teaching English as a Second Language in the city goes towards rent, the other half towards pretty produce at the farmer’s market. I like Motown music, seasons, poems, poems about seasons, and the International Phonetic Alphabet. I do not like cilantro or meanness. My dream is to be known casually as “Claire, she’s a pretty good cook.” The Sprout Diaries is how I plan to get there. Thanks for reading.

“Live each season as it passes;  breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.”                                                                            – Henry David Thoreau

Asparagus- an all time favorite. Your dinner looked great, recipes looked fun and the reading was very enjoyable. Can’t wait for your next vegetable choice! I have some season related cookbooks if you’re interested. See you in a very short time!

I really only know you through your cool mother and my lovely daughter (Dana Van Oostenburg, fellow linguist), and now I’ll know you through your writing and cooking. I’m looking forward to it! Love your photo! Eileen
